What You Need to Know About Your Privacy and Sie Macht
Hey-o, there are some things you should know about your privacy on Sie Macht.
Sie Macht collects your data in a few ways. Some of your personal data is collected when you sign up for email and when you leave a comment.
Sie Macht also uses cookies to collect personal data. Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, phone, tablet, etc. to help this site provide a better user experience. In general, cookies retain user preferences, store information for things like shopping carts, and provide non-identifying tracking data to third-party applications such as Google Analytics (which is used on Sie Macht).
As a rule, cookies improve your browsing experience. However, you may prefer to disable cookies on this site and on others. The most effective way to do this is to disable cookies in your browser. We suggest consulting the Help section of your browser (usually in the upper right) or taking a look at the following sites for guidance:
How Stuff Works | What is an Internet Cookie?
Google Chrome Help | Clear, Enable, and Manage Cookies
Opera Blogs | How to Manage Cookies in Opera
If you poke around these sites (and do some searches for (internet, web, or browser) cookies, you’ll have a basic understanding of what cookies are about and how to spike them if you don’t want them. No hard feelings if you do!
Email Info
I have a monthly email newsletter. I think itβs pretty rad. Hereβs boilerplate copy from Mailchimp, my email provider, about your personal data:
Sie Macht will use the information you provide on email forms to be in touch with you and to provide updates and marketing. You can change your mind at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of any email you receive from us, or by contacting us at erin@siemachtsewingblog.com. I will treat your information with respect. And thereβs no hard feelings if you want to bail or want me to delete your data. I donβt want to fill your inbox with stuff you donβt want.
Store Info
Sie Macht uses Woo Commerce to run its store. Here is (mostly) boilerplate privacy copy from Woo Commerce:
We collect information about you during the checkout process on our store. While you visit our site, weβll track:
- Products youβve viewed: weβll use this to, for example, show you products youβve recently viewed
- Location, IP address and browser type: weβll use this for purposes like estimating taxes and shipping
- Shipping address: weβll ask you to enter this so we can, for instance, estimate shipping before you place an order, and send you the order!
Weβll also use cookies to keep track of cart contents while youβre browsing our site.
When you purchase from us, weβll ask you to provide information including your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, credit card/payment details and optional account information like username and password. Weβll use this information for purposes, such as, to:
- Send you information about your account and order
- Respond to your requests, including refunds and complaints
- Process payments and prevent fraud
- Set up your account for our store
- Comply with any legal obligations we have, such as calculating taxes
- Improve our store offerings
- Send you marketing messages, if you choose to receive them
If you create an account, we will store your name, address, email and phone number, which will be used to populate the checkout for future orders.
We generally store information about you for as long as we need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it, and we are not legally required to continue to keep it.
We will also store comments or reviews, if you choose to leave them.
Members of our team have access to the information you provide us. For example, both Administrators and Shop Managers (Erin is all administrators and shop managers!) can access:
- Order information like what was purchased, when it was purchased and where it should be sent, and
- Customer information like your name, email address, and billing and shipping information.
Our team members have access to this information to help fulfill orders, process refunds and support you.
For personal data retention, here’s how long the Sie Macht store will retain the following information:
- Inactive accounts: 1 year
- Pending orders: 1 day
- Failed orders: 1 day
- Cancelled orders: 1 day
- Completed orders: 1 year
We accept payments through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information. Please see the PayPal Privacy Policy for more details.
Sie Macht uses Mailchimp for Woo Commerce. When shopping, Mailchimp for Woo Commerce keeps a record of your email and the cart contents for up to 30 days on its server. This record is kept to repopulate the contents of your cart if you switch devices or needed to come back another day. Read Mailchimp’s privacy policy here.
Sie Macht uses Woo Commerce’s shipping and tax tool. By using this extension, you may be storing personal data or sharing data with external services. Learn more about how this works, including what you may want to include in your privacy policy.
Anti-Spam Vendor Info
Sie Macht uses Aksimet, an anti-spam service. We collect information using Akismet about visitors who comment. The information we collect may include the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).
Affiliate Program Transparency
Also, as long as we’re doing doing the transparency dance, you should know that Sie Macht participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and the eBay Partner Network, affiliate programs wherein I may earn a small commission if you click a link and make a purchase. You can read boilerplate copy about these programs on my About page. I also talk over there about your personal data and marketing messages. TL;DR: You’ll only get messages from Sie Macht you want, and I’ll never, ever spam you. YUCK. Your privacy matters to Sie Macht, and your email is not for sale!
I also participate in affiliate programs for: Etsy, Bootstrap Fashion, MasterClass, Craftsy, Creativebug, edX, FutureLearn, Udemy, and Skillshare. The same basic affiliate stuff applies: if you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission.
If you have questions, please drop me a line! Thanks.
