What They Made is an occasional series in which I highlight handmade items that tickle my fancy.

Das Baby was 36 weeks as of Sunday, May 8 β€” Mother’s Day.

I’m not a mother yet… give me a few weeks (Yip!). But I was given a very lovely Mother’s Day gift Sunday.

Traditional mother’s jewelry never has turned my crank. I don’t like the jumble of different birthstones, DOBs, and names. Not my style.

Momma & babies branch necklace, via Figs & Ginger.

I was just out of my first trimester when I spied mother’s jewelry from Figs & Ginger at Art vs. Craft, Milwaukee’s annual extravaganza of handmade goodies. I liked the bird necklaces before I realized they were baubles for mums. It was the subtlety that sold me.

First observed Mother’s Day.

The necklaces are made from recycled sterling silver, and additional baby birds can be added when a mother’s nest acquires more occupants. How cute is that?
